May 22, 2010 – With assistance from the Mo. Department of Conservation, Burns & McDonnell Engineering, the KCMO Parks & Rec. Department and numerous volunteers, students began a habitat restoration project on Lake of the Enshriners behind the Brush Creek Community Center.
Work included planting 500 plants and 3 bald cypress trees, seeding the island and picking up trash. The long-term vision for the island is to replace the weeds and turf grass with native vegetation to increase habitat, improve water quality and discourage Canada geese.
We hope this project is the first of many habitat restoration efforts along Brush Creek.
