Kansas City's bistate regional planning organization awards a grant to Green Works to increase and promote recycling in urban Kansas City.

State Farm awards $12K to Green Works

State Farm Insurance presented Green Works board members with a check for $12,000 in support of the ECOS program. This is the largest private grant, and second largest donation made to Green Works!

The Pitch magazine annually publishes their best-of-Kansas City listing that features everything from the best restaurants to the best media personalities to the best goods and services. This year Green Works president Kate Corwin was named the "Best Eco Activist".

Whole Foods and Front Porch Alliance are sponsoring healthy classroom snacks.

Thanks to support from Whole Foods and Front Porch Alliance, our students will enjoy healthy snacks this year.  Rather than chips and soda, they'll be fueling their brains with fruits and vegetables with dip, yogurt, nut butter sandwiches, guacamole, trail mix, cheese and crackers, granola bars, lemonade and ice tea.
   
ECOS graduate presents at conference

September 3rd, 2009
Jyra Hill, an ECOS graduate and intern was a presenter at the 2009 Association of Missouri Interpreters Conference this month.  Jyra shared her perspective as both as an ECOS student and interpreter, through her internship at the Discovery Center.  Jyra was very well received. One attendee commented: "Jyra was very brave, and her words have inspired me. Now I know we have the chance to change people."   Jyra graduated this spring, and is now attending Penn Valley.  She hopes to be an environmental education instructor.

Green Works participates in discussion with White House, federal and local officials on the Green Impact Zone

Green Works founder and board members took part in a discussion on the Green Impact Zone with several federal officials. In attendance were U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, Adolfo Carrion, director of the White House Office of Urban Affairs, Shaun Donovan, secretary of housing and urban development; John Porcari, deputy secretary of transportation, and Van Jones, special advisor for green jobs with the White House Council for Environmental Quality. EPA awards $25,000 to Green Works

Green Works supporters met for an informal fundraiser in the heart of the Crossroads district in Kansas City at Straw, Sticks and Bricks. Straw, Sticks and Bricks is a leading provider of green building materials and building systems.
