Thanks to support from Whole Foods and Front Porch Alliance, our students will enjoy healthy snacks this year. Rather than chips and soda, they'll be fueling their brains with fruits and vegetables with dip, yogurt, nut butter sandwiches, guacamole, trail mix, cheese and crackers, granola bars, lemonade and ice tea.

Jyra Hill, an ECOS graduate and intern was a presenter at the 2009 Association of Missouri Interpreters Conference this month. Jyra shared her perspective as both as an ECOS student and interpreter, through her internship at the Discovery Center. Jyra was very well received. One attendee commented: "Jyra was very brave, and her words have inspired me. Now I know we have the chance to change people." Jyra graduated this spring, and is now attending Penn Valley. She hopes to be an environmental education instructor.

Green Works founder and board members took part in a discussion on the Green Impact Zone with several federal officials. In attendance were U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, Adolfo Carrion, director of the White House Office of Urban Affairs, Shaun Donovan, secretary of housing and urban development; John Porcari, deputy secretary of transportation, and Van Jones, special advisor for green jobs with the White House Council for Environmental Quality.
