Environmental Connection Opportunities for Students (ECOS)

ECOS is a year-long after school program that includes classroom instruction and experiments, hands-on projects, guest speakers, science journals, field trips and service learning opportunities. The curriculum focuses on Kansas City's most pressing environmental problems including the combined sewer system, our declining urban forest, ozone levels, and solid waste and recycling.

Select students receive assistance with internships and employment.

ECOS moving to the Brush Creek Community Center
In this our third year, we are excited to be partnering with the City of Kansas City, Missouri to offer ECOS at the Brush Creek Community Center and serve students in the Green Impact Zone. The Zone, an idea initiated by Congressman Cleaver, will concentrate a majority of stimulus funding into a 150 block area of need. Click here to read more about the Zone.

ECOS Curriculum Enhancements - more math, money skills and character development
We are adding foundational algebra and geometry to the ECOS curriculum this year along with money skills and financial simulations. We are also incorporating character building sessions to help our students prepare for life after high school.

Program Evaluation by Connie Campbell, Ph.D.
