ECOS Program Evaluation & ROI Analysis

ECOS Objectives
ECOS is designed around three core objectives:

1.   Increasing students’ science literacy.
2.   Changing students’ behavior towards the environment.
3.   Providing students with an opportunity to experience environmental
employment.

ECOS Evaluation
Dr. Connie Campbell recently completed an evaluation of the first year of the ECOS program and her evaluation included the following student results and characteristics:

  • ECOS provided a direct benefit to water quality, energy conservation, air quality and solid waste reduction through citizen involvement and education.
  • ECOS increased the impact on the environment through example and influence.
  • Students demonstrated mastery of academic environmental science concepts.
  • Students experienced increased self-perceptions, confidence and concern about the environment.
  • Students avoid consideration of science as a career.

In addition, Dr. Campbell created a return on investment analysis resulting from the students’ behavior change. For the one-page summary graphic (above) of ROI click here.
