Volunteer With Green Works

We currently use volunteers to help in the classroom, as mentors for our students, and for planting projects. If you’re interested in volunteering with Green Works, please drop us a note, and we’ll send you back an interest form to complete. Thanks for your interest!

Classroom Assistant – Help our primary first year ECOS instructor with science experiments and environmental lessons. Takes place at high school locations in Kansas City, Missouri, during after-school hours. Time commitment is a two hour block.

Career Volunteer – Attend a career exploration lesson with our second year students to talk about your career path and how you achieved it (education, internships, starting position, etc.).  Takes place at high school locations in Kansas City, Missouri, during after-school hours, or at an evening class in midtown from 5:30 – 7:30. Time commitment is a two hour block.

Mentor – Serve as a mentor and career role model for one of our second year students. Attend several sessions of the second year program with your assigned student and help them with activities including interest and career assessments and setting up a LinkedIn account. Then continue to communicate with your assigned student during their summer internship. Takes place at high school locations in Kansas City, Missouri, during after-school hours, or at an evening class in midtown from 5:30 – 7:30. Time commitment is 12 hours of classes during the school year (six classes, 2 hours each), plus being on-call for questions and support during the student’s six week summer internship.

Planting Projects – Help Green Works staff, students, and other volunteers plant trees and plant and maintain rain gardens and other native planting beds. Takes place during after-school hours or Saturdays during the spring or fall. Time commitment is a two hour block.
