Nature Changes Kids’ Immune Systems

In 2020, daycare workers in Finland rolled out a lawn, planted forest undergrowth, and allowed children to care for crops in planter boxes. Within a very short period of time, the diversity of microbes in the guts and on the skin of the children appeared healthier and their T-cell levels had increased.

Does your child need more time outside? How about less screen time and more in-person socializing? If you live in Jackson County and have a 4th – 7th grader, you can sign them up for the ECOS Nature Club run by Green Works.

ECOS includes nature hikes, bird watching, art projects, identifying native trees and plants, music and journaling. ECOS meets on Saturday mornings at the Gorman Discovery Center near 47th and Troost and our spring sessions starts April 1st. Sign up on our website.
